STOP Posting Content That Gets Likes - But NO Clients
WRITTEN BY: KARL MUIR, BIRDIE DIGITAL
Let’s get one thing clear: likes don't pay your bills.
Neither do comments, shares, or those “love this!” replies that never turn into anything.
If your content’s getting engagement but you’re not getting enquiries, it’s not working. And the answer isn’t more content. It's a better strategy.
Here’s what’s probably going wrong - and how to fix it.
1. You’re Educating, Not Converting
You’re sharing tips, ideas, maybe even frameworks.
But…you’re not telling people what to do next.
You’re basically giving a TED talk, then walking off stage without a pitch. And people? They’ll smile, clap, nod along - and scroll on.
✅ Fix this: End every post with a next step. That might be:
“DM me if you want help with this”
“Comment PLAN and I’ll send you the guide”
“Here's the link to book a call”
You’re not being pushy. You’re being helpful.
2. You’re Getting the Wrong Kind of Attention
Not all engagement is good engagement.
If your content’s being liked by your mates, your ex-colleagues, and that person you did a course with 5 years ago…but none of your ideal clients are commenting or saving it?
That’s a sign.
You’ve become LinkedIn famous with the wrong crowd.
✅ Fix this: Start creating content that speaks directly to your buyer.
Call them out. Talk about their pain points. Use phrases they actually say.
Forget trying to please everyone. Speak to one person, and speak to them clearly.
3. You’re Posting for Likes, Not Leads
Let me guess...
You’re using trending audio.
You’re trying to game the algorithm.
You’re making “funny” videos to get more reach.
But here’s the thing: reach is pointless if it doesn’t attract buyers.
Views are just vanity if the right people aren’t seeing the right message.
✅ Fix this: Create posts with a purpose.
Not every post needs to “convert” - but it should do something:
Build authority (share a case study)
Create trust (talk about your process)
Spark curiosity (highlight a client win or quick tip)
Move them forward (offer a lead magnet, training, or call)
Ask yourself: “What’s the goal of this post?” If you don’t know, don’t post it.
4. You’re Invisible Between Posts
Content is one part of your strategy.
But if you’re not following up with leads, starting conversations, or having sales calls - you’re not running a business. You’re just making content.
It’s easy to hide behind Canva and pretend you’re being productive.
✅ Fix this: Build a simple follow-up system:
DM people who engage with your posts.
Tag and track warm leads in a CRM (or even a spreadsheet).
Send helpful resources and make offers when the time is right.
You don’t need to “sell in the DMs.” You just need to be visible, consistent, and useful.
Bottom Line? Content Alone Won’t Get You Clients
Strategic content + smart follow-up = leads.
Everything else is just noise.
You don’t need to be on 5 platforms. You don’t need a fancy funnel.
You just need content that actually moves people - and a simple system to convert the right ones.
Start with that. And your DMs will stop being quiet.
